This is the Children's version of Chex Party Mix. Like the adult mix, it is habit-forming and not very nutritious, but tastes wonderful.

Reindeer Poop

Children can help with the stirring and shaking parts of this recipe, but an adult should do the melting and mixing of the hot chocolate.

  • 8 C. corn Chex cereal

  • 1-2 C. puffed rice cereal

  • 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • 1/2 C. peanut butter

  • 2 T. butter or margarine (don't use "spread")

  • 1/2 t. vanilla

  • 2 C. powdered sugar

    1. Place the cereal in a large heat-proof pan.

    2. In a microwavable dish, melt the chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. (Heat for 1 minute on high, stir and heat another 30 seconds or until melted.)

    3. Stir vanilla into chocolate mixture.

    4. Pour chocolate over cereal and stir until well coated.

    5. Pour cereal mixture on waxed paper and allow to cool slightly. Break up any big chunks.

    6. Doing 1/4 at at time, place powdered sugar in a large zip-lock bag and shake the chocolate-covered cereal in the bag until all pieces are well-coated. Pour into a cake pan or other large pan and refridgerate until hard.

To serve, place the snack in small paper cups and supply spoons, otherwise most children will end up being covered with chocolate and powdered sugar and their parents won't speak to you for months! (On the up side, you may never have to throw another children's party!)

To make "Snowman Poop", add 2 C. miniature marshmallows to the finished snack mix.

To make "Yule tree Poop", add 1 C. chow mein noodles to the finished snack mix.

Why call it "Poop"? Partly to discourage adults from eating it and partly because that's what my grandchildren call it. When you see the finished snack mix, you will see why!
